Small Claims
Colorado Small Claims Court handles civil disputes involving $7,500 or less, including unpaid debts, property damage, contract disputes, and certain landlord-tenant matters.
Small Claims cases typically include an “S” in the case number (for example, 2026S123).
Mediation provides an opportunity to resolve the dispute before trial through a structured conversation facilitated by a neutral mediator. If an agreement is reached, it is reduced to writing and may be submitted to the court.
Both parties must agree to participate before a mediation date is confirmed.
County Court
Colorado County Court handles civil disputes that exceed the Small Claims limit and generally involve claims up to $25,000, including contract disputes, property damage, unpaid debts, and certain landlord-tenant matters.
County Court civil cases typically include a “C” in the case number (for example, 2026C123).
Mediation allows parties to resolve the dispute before trial. Any agreement reached is reduced to writing and may be submitted to the court.
Both parties must agree to participate before a mediation date is confirmed.
Family Court
Colorado Family Law (Domestic Relations) cases involve divorce, allocation of parental responsibilities, parenting time, child support, and post-decree modifications.
Family Law cases typically include “DR” in the case number (for example, 2026DR123).
Mediation provides an opportunity to address parenting and financial issues outside of court through a structured conversation facilitated by a neutral mediator. If an agreement is reached, it is reduced to writing and may be submitted to the court.
